根据加拿大财政部公布的清单，反制关税集中在钢铝、乳制品、家电、农业设备、纸浆造纸、塑料和电子产品等领域，税率分为15%、25%和50%三档。 大多数美国钢铝制品关税将从25%提高到50%，奶酪等乳制品、鱼类海鲜及部分钢铝衍生品征收25%，针对美国汽车的现有反制关税继续维持。 被课以50%重税的还有家具、高尔夫球杆、服装、智能手机、显示器、游戏机和摩托车等品类。加拿大联邦官员表示，受反制影响的美国商品总额与美方加征50%关税涉及的商品价值相当，实现等额对等反制。 据悉，这场关税对轰的导火索是8月21日美加贸易谈判在最后一刻破裂。美方随即于8月22日对约200亿美元加拿大商品加征50%关税，涉及葡萄酒、水泥、冰球器材等产品。
特朗普8月24日又在社交媒体发文加码，宣布自2027年1月1日起，把对加拿大汽车、卡车、汽车零部件和钢铁的关税提高至50%，而目前美国对加拿大汽车的关税税率是25%，相当于直接翻倍。他同时喊话，在美国本土生产相关产品则零关税，意图把供应链拉回美国。 加拿大总理卡尼此前已撂下狠话，称将采取一美元对一美元的方式回应。 据了解，汽车是加拿大第二大出口品类，50%的汽车关税一旦落地，部分车企在加拿大的工厂恐怕难逃关停命运。
